NCIRE and the entire Bay Area lost a beloved and benevolent man with the passing of Walter Newman. His achievements and contributions to San Francisco are astounding in their scope and breadth and his legacy will remain a model of unselfish service and integrity. His kindness, civic responsibility and heroic military service came naturally to him.
Throughout his personal and professional life, he had been highly active in public service allowing us to experience a talented leader and passionate patriot who provided us with his trademark wisdom, good humor, and enthusiasm.
We send our sincerest thoughts to those who knew him best, particularly his wife Ellen, and sons Walter Jr. and John, who will remain cherished members of our community. We remain deeply humbled by their vision and commitment to service and to Veteran's health, and we will carry on in the tradition of service that Walter so vividly exemplified.
Walter, thank you for your service.
